Research suggests that people may be able to increase their creative performance if they use a cognitive approach that best suits their personality. Now what exactly does this mean? Two major personality types were examined during this experiment: the wandering mind and the focused mind.
Researchers challenged individuals who displayed one of the two personalities, asking them to solve problems by intuition or an analytical approach. They found that people who identified as having a wandering mind personality succeeded more when using an intuitive method to solve a creative problem. On the other hand, people with a focused mind personality performed better when solving problems through an analytical approach.
Overall this shows that there is no single mindset one needs to be creative. Simply analyze your own personality and start from there! To read the full article and learn more about the experiment, click here.
